A TAX-WISE GIFT THAT GIVES BACK

Learn more about how a Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) can benefit you.

You can secure your financial future while helping to defend liberty through education. You will receive set payments for life at an attractive fixed rate.

How a Charitable Gift Annuity Works

  • You donate cash or appreciated securities worth $10,000* or more, depending on your state of residence, to Hillsdale. In return, you and/or another beneficiary will receive fixed payments for life.
  • Your payment rate is based on your age (60 years or older) and will never change.
  • A portion of your payments will be tax-free.
  • The older you are — or the longer you defer starting your payment — the higher your payments will be.

*Note: Hillsdale College offers charitable gift annuities to residents of AL, AR, CA, HI, MD, ND, NJ, NY, TN, and WA via the National Gift Annuity Foundation (NGAF). The minimum investment amount is $20,000 through NGAF.

It’s quick and easy. You simply fill out a form.

Taxes can be reduced or even eliminated on certain assets.

It can reduce or avoid probate fees.

There’s no cost to you today. You retain full control of your assets for as long as you need them.

Benefits of a Charitable Gift Annuity

Payment rates can now reach 10.1 percent, depending on your age (you must be 60 or older). If you don’t need the income immediately, you can schedule payments to begin at least one year after your donation. The longer the deferral period, the higher your payment rate.
Why a charitable gift annuity is a good idea:
  • Guaranteed fixed lifetime income at new, higher rates with no stock market risk
  • Current income tax charitable deduction
  • Possible tax-free income
  • Potential estate tax savings
  • Ability to direct your gift to a specific purpose at Hillsdale College

DONOR HIGHLIGHT – Sara K.

Before my parents died, they established CGAs (Charitable Gift Annuities) at Hillsdale for both my sister and me, as well as for my mother. When my mother died, I started getting quarterly checks from Hillsdale. They were nice, so my husband and I decided to look up what Hillsdale was. We found that it is a well-regarded college that receives no government funding. We thought that was wonderful. So we also made some large donations to CGAs.

Five years ago, my husband died. He was a savvy guy in finances, so he helped me set up several CGAs at Hillsdale and another favorite charity. So now I live on these monthly payouts and Social Security, which only cover my housing costs.

I am thankful that Hillsdale continues to be an excellent educational option, and I am happy that I will receive a nice amount upon my death. And I am thankful that until then, I can live comfortably on my monthly payments from them.
